Elon Musk’s X hit with trademark lawsuit from promoting company

Oct 2 (Reuters) – X Corp, previously recognized as Twitter, was sued in federal court in Florida on Monday by a legal-promoting organization that statements the social media giant’s new identify infringes its trademark incorporating the letter “X.”

The lawsuit by X Social Media claims that X Corp, which owner Elon Musk started rebranding to X from Twitter in July, was most likely to induce purchaser confusion.

The scenario appears to be the 1st of what could be several trademark disputes with Musk’s business in excess of the letter “X,” which is generally employed in tech branding.

“X” is provided in hundreds of federal emblems owned by organizations including Microsoft (MSFT.O) and Meta Platforms (META.O). X Corp applied for its individual U.S. trademarks masking the letter previous month.

The organization claimed Twitter’s rebrand has already confused buyers and induced it to get rid of income.

“In a short time, X Corp has wielded its social media clout, advertising sources, and total countrywide notoriety to dominate customer notion of its ‘X’ mark,” the lawsuit claimed.

X Social Media questioned the court to pressure Musk’s firm to prevent using the “X” identify and requested an unspecified amount of revenue damages.
